Mr. Ed Grumble is Amy’s next door neighbor. He is the romantic interest of the Green Lawn Elementary School Librarian, Barbara Hagglestein. Mr. Grumble is the owner of the  Gum Drop Shop, a penny candy store. Mr. Grumble is often grumpy toward children, but he secretly wants to help them. His favorite saying is “Darn Nabbit!”
